Tips for Organising yourself at Schools

Tips for Primary School age children

  • Getting Ready for Primary School
  • Help your child feel prepared for school by:
  • Talking about school – Share the fun and exciting things they can expect in the classroom.
  • Practicing the routine – Try out the journey to school ahead of time and point out interesting landmarks along the way.
  • Practical Skills for School
  • There are several useful skills your child can practice to make their school day easier:
  • Recognising their name – It’s helpful so your child can keep track of their belongings and to help support their own independence by finding their name on their peg and books.
  • Using the bathroom independently – Being able to use the restroom and wash their hands afterward will boost their independence and reduce the chance of accidents.
  • Dressing themselves – Being able to get dressed and undressed on their own will be especially useful when it’s time for PE

  • Ensure all your equipment is put back in your pencil case so you can easily find everything.
  • Organise your school bag so books, homework diary and pencil case are in a separate compartment to your personal belongings e.g. phone, purse, keys.
  • Look at your timetable the night before to make sure you have the correct equipment and school books in your bag to save rushing in the morning.
